ZF readies TRW brand for Euro 7 brake emissions

ZF Aftermarket is strengthening its position for Euro 7 brake emissions readiness with a strategic investment in an in-house brake emissions dynamometer at its friction competence centre in Spain.

The upcoming Euro 7 standard extends emissions legislation to include brake dust for the first time. Although this regulation initially applies only to new vehicles, it will also have an impact on the aftermarket.

Vehicle workshops need replacement parts that have been tested at an early stage and are Euro 7-compliant.

ZF’s facility in Spain validates its TRW brake pads and discs under Euro 7-relevant conditions. At the centre of this capability is the ZF dustIN (Dust Investigator), a brake particle testing dynamometer, designed, engineered, developed and built in-house by ZF to meet current standards while remaining fully adaptable to future regulatory tightening.

The manufacturer said the new brake emissions dynamometer provides it with full internal control over testing speed, data integrity, repeatability, and confidentiality.

With the addition of the ZF dustIN that can specifically track particle emissions, ZF Aftermarket now operates 31 dynamometers dedicated exclusively to friction development and validation – further strengthening its ability to shorten development cycles and accelerate time-to-market.

By investing early in in-house testing, validation, and development infrastructure through its TRW brand, ZF Aftermarket said this enables customers to plan with confidence, even as regulatory frameworks continue to mature.
