GT Exhausts sold to UK based The Exhausted Group

GT Exhausts Limited in Enniskillen has been acquired by an English company, in the year that it celebrates 50 years in business.

The new owners, the Exhausted Group, plans to continue GT Exhausts’ business operations, including the company’s manufacturing and distribution activities, and retain all jobs.

The Exhausted Group Ltd was incorporated on 4th October, 2024 with the registered office in Leicester, in Leicestershire. Records show that this UK-based holding company is owned by Susannah Lodge, Anthony Garner, Ian Phillips, and Kay Johnson.

The deal was finalised in February 2025. The previous owners, the Tunney family, have transitioned out of the business, but the company is committed to its employees and customers.

Tracey Tunney Hunter, Managing Director of GT Exhausts, said: “We are very excited about this new phase for GT Exhausts and are confident that the new owners will continue to grow and expand the business across every facet, augmenting further the market presence of the GT product. Additionally, there will be no operational changes in the day-to-day running of the business.”

Following due diligence, the sale represents one of the largest precision engineering sector deals in Northern Ireland.

GT Exhausts Ltd, is a leading manufacturer of exhaust systems based in Enniskillen, established in 1975 by the late Gilbert Tunney. GT Exhausts has supplied over 10 million exhaust products across Europe, becoming a leading supplier in the Ireland and UK markets. The business currently has sites in Enniskillen, Belfast and Aldridge, West Midlands.

The acquisition ensures that all jobs within GT Exhausts will be retained, with no changes to daily operations.

The acquisition of GT Exhausts by the Exhausted Group marks another significant deal in the UK and Ireland automotive aftermarket sector, following PHE’s acquisition of Top Part Group in Ireland earlier this year.

The UK and Ireland automotive replacement parts market is supported by ageing vehicles which are driving increased demand for replacement parts, with the average car age in Ireland now 9.6 years, up from 5.8 years in 2008.

Additionally, just five per cent of Ireland’s vehicle fleet is electric, and new EV registrations fell by 23.6 per cent year-on-year in 2024, per EY.

This slower transition to electric vehicles suggests continued demand for traditional exhaust systems and related components, making GT Exhausts an attractive acquisition.
