Delphi highlights advanced shim technology for quieter, more reliable braking
Delphi is highlighting its advanced brake shim technology, designed to deliver quieter braking, enhanced comfort and improved long-term reliability across its range of popular brake pads.
Brake noise remains one of the most common sources of customer dissatisfaction, often caused by vibration between the pad and caliper under light braking. To combat this, Delphi integrates premium-quality shims ensuring workshops can offer a refined, OE-level braking experience.
Brake shims are thin layers bonded to the back of the brake pad, engineered to absorb and dampen vibrations that can lead to high-frequency noise.

Delphi says its precision-designed shims optimise NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) performance, maintaining consistent contact between the pad and caliper throughout the component’s life.
This advanced design helps prevent unwanted oscillations at the source, reducing the likelihood of noise-related comebacks and improving workshop efficiency.
Delphi’s advanced shim technology is featured across many popular applications, including models such as the Honda Civic (LP809), Toyota Corolla and RAV4 (LP789), and Nissan Qashqai and Renault Kadjar (LP3144) – covering millions of vehicles across the market with precision-engineered shims as standard.
Luke Garratt, UK technical service manager at Delphi, commented: “Brake noise is a common challenge for workshops, but with the right component design, it can be easily avoided. Our advanced shim technology demonstrates how engineering precision and material science come together to enhance braking comfort and reliability. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference to both technicians and drivers.”
Each Delphi brake pad is developed and tested to OE standards, with its shims undergoing rigorous durability, corrosion and vibration testing to ensure consistent performance under real-world conditions.
The shims come pre-installed, allowing for quick and straightforward fitting with no need for retrofitting or modification – saving technicians both time and labour.
