Soltec completes large solar PV project

Waste management firm Soltec has completed the installation of a large number of solar PV panels at its Mullingar facility in Co Westmeath.

The 86.5KW system consists of 186 solar panels on a trapezoidal rooftop, which Soltec claims will reduce its carbon output by approximately 20,000 kg annually, or approximately 400,000 kg over the first 20 years of operation.

It replaces conventional power sources to provide over 80 per cent of the energy used to power the five-acre waste treatment and recovery facility in Mullingar, which opened in 2022.

Michael Corcoran, managing director of Soltec said: “Our investment in a solar PV project and installation of new energy-efficient equipment throughout our facility, represents another sustainability milestone that Soltec has achieved.

“Our goals align with Ireland’s renewable energy goals, and we pride ourselves in enabling our clients to achieve their own sustainability goals due to our recovery and recycling services”

Soltec specialises in recycling, recovering, and repurposing hazardous waste for the likes of local garages and bodyshops. Its Mullingar facility manages 20,000 tonnes of waste on an annual basis.
