New NGK glow plugs
Two new glow plugs have been released into the UK automotive aftermarket by NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd to cater for a range of popular vehicle models.
The glow plugs are ideal for servicing thousands of current models from Fiat, Volvo, Peugeot and Citroën.
NGK developed the Y9001AS glow plug on behalf of Fiat for the car manufacturer’s SDE 1.3 Multijet Euro 5 diesel engine, where it is used exclusively as original equipment.
It can be found in 1.3 models including the Fiat 500, Grande Punto and Doblo as well as in the Alfa Romeo MiTo. In addition, the Y9001AS is the ideal choice for the Citroën Nemo 1.3 HDi 75, and the 1.3 Ford Ka and Peugeot Bipper.
The second glow plug which is now available to garages is the Y8008AS. It ensures optimal starting conditions for more than 40 models from the Volvo range. It is suitable for the 2.4 Volvo C30, the 2.0 C70, and 2.4 S60, V70 and XC90 models.

Both glow plugs are of the AQGS (Advanced Quick Glow System) type, featuring a heater tube with a much smaller diameter than conventional sheathed-type glow plugs. This enables them to reach a temperature of 1000°C in less than two seconds and heat up the combustion chamber extremely quickly to guarantee an efficient and environmentally-friendly cold start even at the lowest ambient temperatures.
