Liqui Moly sponsors Sandro Cortese

German motor oil specialists Liqui Moly is set to sponsor Moto3 world champion Sandro Corteste, when he lines up this year in the higher performance, Moto2 class.

“A high-quality racing series, international environment and a top rider – we do not want to miss this opportunity,’ says Peter Baumann, Marketing Manager at Liqui Moly.

Baumann says the sponsorshop will strengthen the company’s recognition of the motor cycle sector. “Many people only think of cars when they think of Liqui Moly, but in the Racing line we have our own product range for motorcycles,” he said.

“The Moto2 Series is the optimal environment for this: exciting races across the world ensure a large media presence for us and make especially high-value customer events available to us in precisely the area that we want to accelerate. This sponsorship also allows us to test our own motorcycle products under the hardest of conditions.”

Cortese (22) started riding in pocket bike races at just 8 years old. After the 125 cm3 class was developed into the Moto3 class in 2012, he convincingly won the world championship at the first attempt.

This year he is switching to the Moto2 class. It is a hard-fought prototype racing class within the FIM motorcycle road world championship. 600 ccm four-cylinder four stroke engines with around 128 bhp are used.

The new team Intact GP was created just for him in which only he rides – a first in the history of the racing series. ‘It is great to have in Liqui Moly not just a sponsor from home, but also a real role model,” says Cortese.

The Moto2 World Championship season opener takes place on 7 April 2013 with the Night Grand Prix in Doha, Qatar.
