VDO tachograph coverage from Truck & Bus Parts
From 1st July 2026, major changes to tachograph requirements will apply to light commercial vehicles (LCVs) between 2.5-tonnes and 3.5-tonnes operating on international journeys across the EU, UK and Ireland.
These changes arise from the EU Mobility Package and will affect any vehicle crossing a border, including Northern Ireland.
For operators and fleet managers, this means vans used internationally will now follow similar compliance rules as heavy trucks. Driving and rest times must be digitally recorded, border crossings and GPS positions will be automatically logged, and driver and vehicle data must be securely stored and available for inspections.
Non-compliance could lead to significant penalties, vehicle immobilisation, or loss of transport authorisation.

As an authorised distributor for Continental VDO tachographs across the UK and Ireland, Truck & Bus Parts offers a complete tachograph solution, comprising tachograph kits and adaptability kits (M1N1), as well as the professional fitment of both kits.
Furthermore, the Ballymount-based importer and distributor of commercial vehicle parts offers the supply and installation of remote download and tracking systems.
According to the new EU Regulation (EU 2021/1228), all smart tachographs must have the function that a software update can be carried out to ensure continuous compliance with safety and legal requirements.
Now is the time to plan retrofits, train drivers, and review compliance process. Click HERE to contact Truck & Bus Parts.
