Valeo brings next generation wiping technology to the aftermarket
From improved visibility and easier fitment to sustainability and increasingly sophisticated windscreen-cleaning systems, the humble wiper blade continues to evolve. Serfac Limited offers Irish motor factors access to Valeo’s comprehensive wiping portfolio, combining the company’s extensive OE expertise with innovative solutions developed specifically for the aftermarket.
As a major global specialist in vehicle visibility systems, Valeo continues to invest in wiping technology, with its latest developments reflecting some of the biggest trends shaping the automotive aftermarket – sustainability, vehicle complexity and the growing importance of clear visibility for both drivers and vehicle-mounted cameras.
One of the most significant additions to Valeo’s aftermarket offering is Valeo Canopy™, its eco-designed flat wiper blade range. Canopy has been designed to reduce CO₂ emissions by 61% compared with a representative conventional Valeo flat blade, a performance independently verified by Bureau Veritas. More than 80% of the rubber blade is manufactured using natural, renewable or recycled materials, including vegetable oils and carbon black derived from recycled tyres.
Crucially for the aftermarket, sustainability has not come at the expense of coverage or convenience. The Canopy range covers 95% of the European vehicle parc and is supplied ready to fit without unnecessary adapters. Valeo also states that Canopy offers a 20% improvement in wiping performance over time compared with the market average.
Valeo’s HydroConnect™ range provides another strong proposition for motor factors and workshops. Developed specifically for the aftermarket, the 100% flat-blade range is divided into Multi-Connection and Upgrade applications. Multi-Connection covers front and rear OE flat-blade applications, while the Upgrade range allows vehicles equipped with traditional hook arms to benefit from flat-blade technology.
Valeo’s Plug & Drive multi-connection system has been designed to make fitting straightforward, while OE long-life rubber and asymmetrical spoiler technology deliver consistent wiping performance and visibility.
Wiper Motors – A Growing Aftermarket Opportunity
Valeo is also expanding beyond the blade itself. The company recently announced a significant development of its wiper motor range, with the objective of doubling coverage to 50% of the European vehicle parc during 2026. The expansion is particularly relevant as the aftermarket requirement moves beyond routine blade replacement towards servicing increasingly integrated wiping and visibility systems.
Wiping Technology Gets Smarter
Valeo’s OE innovation also provides an indication of where the category is heading. AquaBlade® technology integrates washer-fluid nozzles directly into the wiper blade, distributing fluid evenly along the blade – including around windscreen camera areas.
By synchronising washing and wiping, the system can improve cleaning while reducing washer-fluid consumption by up to 60%, according to Valeo. Keeping camera areas clear is also becoming increasingly important as ADAS technologies rely on an unobstructed view through the windscreen.
