NGK employee Stuart Bayne has successfully completed the Virgin Money London Marathon, finishing the 26.2 mile course in just over five hours.

Bayne, who is sales manager – North for NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, says he is hopeful that his endeavours will have raised around £2,500 for the Downs Syndrome Association (DSA).

The marathon was postponed in April this year because of coronavirus but runners took part in a ‘virtual‘ run this weekend with just the top athletes competing in London.

The 57-year-old ran from Cambridge to St Ives in Cambridgeshire and back on Sunday, October 4, completing the route in five hours, two minutes and 41 seconds.

Bayne has raised tens of thousands of pounds for the DSA over the past few years via a number of fund-raising exploits including three marathons and sponsored cycle rides in Europe and New Zealand.

He adds: “The weather wasn’t very nice, it was heavy drizzle all day. It was quite hard going but there were about 60 people taking part over the route and although it was obviously not the same as running the proper London Marathon course it helped to have their support.”
