35 NCT centres now open – remaining 12 to follow within two weeks

The NCTS reopened 19 centres on Monday, June 8. It then reopened the remaining 16 centres yesterday (June 29). The remaining 12 centres should be reopened on a phased basis over the next two weeks, with the NCTS promising to have all centres open by the middle of July.

The NCTS said customers with a test due date prior to March 28 and those affected by the lifts issue are being prioritised. Appointments for these centres are available online at www.ncts.ie

Vehicle owners reminded of four month NCT extension
Vehicle owners are being reminded of the four month NCT extension and the 16 NCT centres that are re-opening today, June 29.

The National Car Testing Service (NCTS) has now updated all records for those customers’ vehicles that qualified for the four month test extension as announced by the now former Minister for Transport Shane Ross in April.

A vehicle with a test due date on or after March 28, 2020 has had its test date extended by four months, for example:

*Cars first registered on or after August 1, 2016 are not eligible for the four month extension.

The NCTS is encouraging customers to check their new test due date on the ‘Check NCT Due Date’ section on the NCTS website before booking their test.

The NCTS said it is reminding customers that if they book a test that is more than 90 days earlier than the test due date, the test will be a voluntary early test and the NCT certificate issued will be valid for one of two years (depending on the age of the vehicle) from the date of the successful test.

Customers are also being urged to note carefully the website messages they receive throughout the course of the booking process.
