Steel and ceramic glow plug tester from Beru
Federal-Mogul Motorparts has introduced a Beru tester for steel and ceramic glow plugs that eliminates the need to dismantle the component or start the engine. The test equipment is also supplemented by an e-brochure to provide technical support to the user.
The Beru workshop tester provides reliable, fast and economical testing, without the need to dismantle the glow plug, or start the engine. It is not required to preset the type of glow plug (steel or ceramic); the Beru tester automatically detects the voltage value.
The equipment has been designed to be easy to handle and use. The device simply connects to the glow plug and to the battery. All glow plugs with voltage values between 3.3 to 15 volts (on vehicles with a 12-volt on board voltage) can be individually tested easily, quickly and reliably to verify they are functioning correctly.
“After connecting the red wire to the positive battery terminal, the black wire to the negative battery terminal and the blue wire to the glow plug, press the start button on the device to begin the test,” said Klaus Bolay Beru technical trainer Austria, Germany and Switzerland. “The glow plug is tested for about ten-seconds under real-life conditions, indicated by the red light on the dial. The pointer shows the initial current consumption and the limiting point.” He continues “If the glow plug is functioning correctly, the OK symbol and dial are illuminated green. If the glow plug is defective only the limited current consumption is displayed. The defect is confirmed when the background light stops flickering red and a continuous red light is present. In that case, you need to replace it by a new Beru glow plug”
